My pixel XL 2 turns off when a charger is put into its port, I have tried cleaning out the connectors, using a different charger and resetting the phone but this issues still persists.
At times it will just turn itself off without a charger plugged in but this is fairly irregular, thankfully.
Anyone got any ideas of how to fix this issue?

Have you tried contacting Google directly? They usually very helpful with these kind of faults. You can find more info about contacting Google here.
Alternatively you could take it to Carphone Warehouse and they will be able to advise you further. Even if you didn't buy it with them they will still be able to fix it as long as you have proof of purchase from retailer.
