Question

random sim not found message

Samsung A40, a couple of months old. Since recently running a softwre upgrade I keep getting these pop ups and very poor connctions. Have rebooted, cleaned sim etc.

Ideas please. Can’t call ID for obvious reasons, but cannot also use my phone a third of the time

Hi @HBAC

Welcome to iD Community.

Can you please send us some examples of the pop up messages.

Thanks,

Pearl

Hi Pearl.Unfortunately some idiot designed this phone with the buttons on same side, so by the time I fumble to press them the message drops off. I will try and get one for you. Regards

As I pressed send it flashed up. No sim. However unless there is an easier way of grabbing a screen shot it's not happening

Hi @HBAC

If the SIM card is not getting detected due to some software issue, restarting may take care of it pretty easily. It will also try to re-establish the connection with the network, and while doing so will start the fresh search for the SIM card.

It will also try to re-establish the connection with the network, and while doing so will start the fresh search for the SIM card.

POWER CYCLE YOUR PHONE

Press and hold the power button until the reboot menu appears. It will look something like this picture.

- Tap ‘Reboot' or ‘Restart' depending upon your phone.

- Confirm that you wish to restart on the next screen.

- Wait for the phone to power up again.

Some of the problems with the SIM slot that can cause this problem:

- SIM Card not inserted properly.

- Loose SIM slot resulting in the card losing the connection with the reader of the device.

- Accumulation of dust over the slot and SIM card reader making the slot incapable of reading the card properly.

Here is what you can do:

- Turn the phone off, open the lid on the back of the smartphone.

- Take off the battery to expose the SIM card slot (some phones do not have the SIM slot blocked by the battery, so you may not need to remove it.)

- Take out the SIM and clean the slot with a dry cloth or brush to remove dirt and grime.

- Reinsert the SIM

If the SIM slot is loose:

- If you feel that the SIM is coming out or slipping in too easily, the slot may be loose.

- Apply some pressure to the slot.

- Check again if the slot is holding the SIM properly.

- If you are convinced, put the battery back on, and restart the phone.

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks,

Pearl

Hi. Coming back to this. 3 times today I have the attached pop up.

That's after all of the above fix attempts.

I presume its/the holder/phone is broken

Please advise

Hello @HBAC,

You can try testing the SIM in another device to see if it’s a SIM issue, but if the SIM  was faulty, we would expect no service all the time.

Let us know how you get on.

Samsung handsets are covered under a 24-month warranty.

You can book your phone into repair at a Carphone Warehouse store when this re-opens or, you can contact Samsung directly to book in for a repair with them.

Hi. So book it in, means no phone for a few weeks then?

Hello @HBAC,

The phone would need to be sent away for a repair at one of our Repair Centres when the stores re-open or you can speak to Samsung to see if they can point you to a repairer that’s manufacturer acreddited and can offer a same day service.

Hello @Iduser1234,

Providing you’ve done the same troubleshooting as above and spoken to Samsung, we can issue a replacement SIM if it hasn’t fixed the issue?

Mohammed

Thank you, I have updated my address as we have recently moved

Hi @HBAC

Can you please confirm if you managed to get a replacement SIM?

Thanks,

Pearl

hi @Mohammed @Pearl_c6

No, as not sure who is meant to request it/send it.

I replied as such to Mohammed’s PM.

Kindly advise in plain idiot speak, as I’m not to quick on the uptake :)
