Wrong number still showing in messages after port?

Userlevel 1
I have successfully ported in my old number to my ID mobile sim but recently it has stated to show my temporary ID mobile number when I send a text to anyone.

Why is this?

Hello @Black-kite-13,

Welcome to the iD Community!

Is this an iPhone by any chance?
The culprit for this would be iMessage.

What happens sometimes is when you've ported your number, iMessage doesn't update to the new number and needs to be done manually.

Can you try the following;

1) Try turning off iMessage (Settings > Messages)
2) then restart your phone (by pressing and holding the on/off button)
3) tap Settings > Phone > My Number and confirm that it is correct.
4) If it is not correct, please enter the correct number)
5) then turn iMessage back to On (Settings > Messages)
6) go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and see if the correct number is displayed under “Start new conversations from:"

This should fix the issue you're facing (if it's an iPhone you're using)

Hi there @Mark2020

Could you have her turn the phone off, remove the SIM.

Then turn the phone on (without SIM) and leave it for about 4-5 mins or so.

Then turn off, re-insert the SIM, and turn back on.

That should hopefully cause the phone to refresh the number in the Android settings.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the help it was the phone in the end 3g stop working. Bought a new phone and worked straight away ☺️. All is working great now

@Kingofcake ,

Could you please try the below?

Change the phone number associated with the Messages app: Open the Messages app. Tap More More and then Settings and then Advanced. Select Phone number, then edit the number to the correct phone number associated with your SIM card. Tap OK.

i tried the following method above for iphone to fix the expiring number problem. whilst it fixed the issue of my temporary new number disappearing and registering my old number back onto my phone - my iphone still tells me my number is going to expire for imessage and face time? is there anything else i can do?

Hi @ch44rlies,

It may be worth turning the handset off and removing the SIM for a few minutes.

Please reinsert the SIM and restart the handset and try changing the number.

If the issue keeps persisting it may be worth contacting Apple directly for further assistance.

Hi, I hope someone can help me.

I have recently purchased 2 new Samsung A53 5G phones, I've ported my numbers and both phones still send messages to certain numbers with the number that came with the phones.

Hi @Alan F. have you tried turning Chat Features off and on?

  • Open Messages.
  • Tap More options > Settings > Chat features.
  • Turn Enable chat features OFF, wait 15 minutes, restart the phone, and turn them ON again

If that doesn’t work, I’d recommend contacting the FacebookTwitter or Live Chat teams for further assistance.

Thank you,

Rory

Hi Rory,

I switched the chat feature off and back on after 15 mins that didn't work so I tried again but turned phone off when switched chat off then switched phone on and turned chat feature back on and that seems to of done the trick

Than you

Alan
