I have been sent bill for the 16/4/2020 an my next bill is due 1/5/2020 why am I being billed 2 times in 2 weeks .unless I get this sorted I will be cancelling my direct debit

There is not need to worry, you won't be charged on the 1st of May for your contract. It is only paperwork being produced on that day but the payment itself is always taken two weeks after the paperwork is produced. So when your bill will be produced on the 1st then payment will be taken around 14th.
