Why would I be charged for a text?

I have just joined iD and on my first bill there is already an additional charge of 10p for a domestic text. Why would this not come out of my inclusive unlimited allowance? It contained no pictures or emojis and was not a completion. In fact it was one word. When I looked at text charges there wasn’t even one for 10p they were all dearer.
