Why do you get charged, either minutes or money when your call is carried through your own or someone else's wifi?

Your answer doesn’t explain why. It just confirms that you do charge minutes when wifi calling is used.
These calls go through the user’s own internet if they are at home. Therefore, the user and their own home internet bear the burden of that call. iD do not carry it.
So why charge the user minutes? Aren’t you effectively getting paid for nothing?

​​​​​​Although the call is helped along using the WiFi connection in place of the traditional network masts, we will still manage the calling features and it uses our network services to connect the call.
A router on its own cannot make a call to another mobile phone so the cost of the call has got to be paid somewhere along the line and that is why the call still comes from your allowances.
A WiFi call is different from that of a call made over the internet using an app such as Whatsapp/Facebook Messenger. Those apps directly connect the user of the app to another user of the app and if you were to make a call using them, your phone allowances will of course not be used as it’s not being connected via the networks phone line.
