Why have I received a letter about my first direct debit payment when I returned my purchase the day after I received it?

I bought a phone with a contract on the iD mobile website. I received it on the 6th of July and returned it to a carphone warehouse shop on the 7th. I have had an email and a letter saying the first payment will be taken out next Monday. How is that possible when I returned the phone and cancelled the contract 24hours after receiving it? The lady in the shop said everything was cancelled. Why am I going to be charged?
And there’s no one I can ring to discuss this with!

Hi @Angrybee,

We’re sorry for any alarm caused by this. The letter was likely in a queue ready to be dispatched following your purchase. You will still be billed for the time the plan was active though, so we would recommend leaving the Direct Debit open so we can take the small payment.
