Here’s what we’re expecting to see from Apple’s new online gaming subscription service…

What is Apple Arcade?

The easiest way to describe Apple Arcade is as an online gaming subscription service – like Netflix but for Apple gamers. The service will feature over 100 games which will all be exclusive to Apple, and there will be a single price plan that lets you play any game on any of your Apple devices.
The beauty of a service like this is that, just like Netflix, you can jump from one device to another. Play a game on your iPhone while you’re on the train, then pick up where you left off on your Apple TV when you get home.

What devices can I use to play Apple Arcade games?

You’ll be able to play Apple Arcade games on pretty much any Apple device, so that’s iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV. And according to Apple, all games will be available offline, so you won’t have any issues playing on the go.

What games will be available?

The fixed monthly fee will give you unlimited access to over 100 of the top games found in the App Store. All the games on Apple Arcade will be exclusive to Apple, and they’re working with some big-name developers too. SEGA, Konami, Cartoon Network and Disney, to name just a few.

As for the types of games you’ll get, it looks like a pretty diverse line-up. You’ve got fun games for the kids like Team Sonic Racing and a modern remake of an absolute classic, Frogger in Toy Town.

For the more serious gamers, there’s the sci-fi adventure Beyond a Steel Sky, Fantasy RPG Fantasian, and first-person shooter, Enter the Construct.

Whatever your preferred genre, there’s certainly going to be plenty to choose from.

How much will it cost?

At the moment the short answer is, we don’t know. But, with Google working on a similar service (Google Stadia) to be released later this year, pricing will certainly need to be competitive. One thing we do know is that there will be a single subscription fee which also offers access to up to 6 family members at no extra cost.

When will Apple Arcade be released?

At the moment there isn’t a specific date for release, but Apple has confirmed that the service will be available in over 150 countries (including the UK) this Autumn.

I can already feel that my commute time will be less "music, and a book on the kindle app", and more killing zombies / fighting aliens with this gaming service. That should change the look on peoples faces as they are buried in their phones too, interesting times ahead! Jase
