I bought a new (refurbished) unlocked iphone 8 from Giff Gaff, but when I move my existing ID Mobile sim card across to it, it’s showing no phone network signal (very occasionally one bar, but then it disappears again). Moving the same sim back to my current handset (iphone 6) it’s fine again. Does this suggest an issue with the sim card? The network? The handset? Or user error?!

Just to check I’m following you right.
Have you moved a number from iD Mobile -over to- GiffGaff?
If so, and you’ve used a PAC (code). Then depending on how long ago you submitted the PAC (code) to GiffGaff, then your number should have already left us and be working with them now in any normal case.
If the GiffGaff SIM isn’t working with the iPhone 8, then you may need to contact GiffGaff for further help on that.
