i have no network coverage only ID wifi

I bought a new SIM card to use in an old handset that I believe is unlocked.  I have ID WiFi so can use the phone on WiFi but no network coverage once I leave WiFi.

I am sorry to hear about that. When you mention iD Wi-Fi, do you mean WiFi calling?

Yes the coverage is fine and I checked it this morning.  
Mir says ID WiFi in the corner abs WiFi calling is working.  But no coverage as soon as WiFi is off so I cannot go outside with the Phone.  
does the sim need to be activated?  What is the problem likely to be? Thanks

Have you tried putting the sim in another phone to see if it works?
