no service after upgrade

I upgraded my phone it came today I had a text to say SIM card will work up to 24 hours should be sooner ( something along those lines) it been hours still no service I’ve taken SIM card in out turned phone off and on I’ve tried activating it but it says already activated is there anything I can do I am a carer and need my phone ASAP
