Wi-Fi Calling on supported iCloud-connected devices

This would be a really useful feature to have. This benefits both, the user and the network.

The user - Can pick up (or place) a call on their computer, if/when they are already using it. The phone might not be near you always. Your headphones/earphones might already be connected to your computer and ready to take/place a call. During these Covid times, working from home, in front of a computer most of the time, it makes a difference to have this feature. The user will have the option to pick up a call on the device of their choice (Mac/iPad/watch), just like say, Skype or FaceTime. Additionally, a user’s phone battery lasts a bit longer which is always a win.

The network - When a user picks up a call on their computer (connected to WiFi), the call obviously goes through the WiFi connection. Any mobile network should be happy about this because they have one less user consuming their network bandwidth.

Ultimately, it is convenience for the user and from network’s perspective, less resources (bandwidth) used. It is a win win situation. Many networks in the US (including MVNOs like iD) are providing this feature. Sadly, only EE (they call it smart number) is providing this in the UK. Here is a link to find out which networks provide this feature, https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204039.

I like iD Mobile a lot, mostly for their cheaper rates and flexibility.

Dear iD, is this feature at least in the pipeline for future release?

Hello @ujwal ,

Thanks for the feedback.

It does sound like a great feature for iOS users, however, it’s not something we offer on our network or are aware of any plans to support in the coming future.
