This may be a stupid question but I’m going to be in Canada for a month then the USA for 3, can I use my phone for data while I’m there and not get charge extra?

Hello @micath,

I don’t believe you can use your phone for data in Canada and USA without paying an extra charge.

You can’t buy a data add-on for roaming, and Canada USA aren’t covered by iD’s 50 inclusive roaming destinations; so your best bet would probably be local Wi-Fi hot-spots.

A word of caution though, my brother who lives in Texas recently told me he was surprised Wi-Fi hot-spots were free to use in the UK, which is not the case in Texas. Other areas of the US may be similar in charging for Wi-Fi use - not sure about Canada.

Anyway, for more details, check out the iD International & Roaming Charges page.

The table below is for roaming charges in the USA:

Roaming Pay monthly Pay-as-you-go
Calls to UK* £1.68 £1.68
Calls to United States* £1.68 £1.68
Calls received* £1.50 £1.50
Texts to United States** £0.42 £0.42
Texts to UK** £0.42 £0.42
Picture message (MMS) sent** £0.60 £0.60
Internet and Data (per MB)*** £0.30 £0.30

* Price per minute

** Price per message/text

*** Data is charged or deducted in one kilobyte (KB) increments and any part KB used will be rounded up to the nearest KB

Prices shown include VAT where applicable.

Good luck!
