I upgraded to a new phone through the app. But i got a new SIM with a different number and also when i look at my account dashboard it shows the old data allowance.

As you have upgraded a new SIM card will be sent, all that you need to do is activate your SIM card and your current mobile number will move over to your new SIM card.
You can find out how to do this here.
Once your upgrade has completed your new plan should reflect on your online account within 24 hours.
