wont let me set a direct debit up

the one month i didnt have the money to pay my bill so i waited till next month tried to pay in through the app wouldnt accept my card saying something went wrong i tried a different card same thing i upgrade soon and trying to set a direct debit up so i can upgrade and its not accepting my card what shall i do.
