Christmas - Bah Humbug!

Bah Humbug! This is not a time to be joyful, or merry, the shops a full of stressed mad people, and that's just the staff, the mince pies start appearing, the radio starts acting all melancholy with jingles and such like, the roads are pitied with salt and grit, if only Chris Rea was coming home for Christmas! I managed to grab a big bag of festive pigs in blankets flavoured crisps from Iceland, to my surprise they are really nice, this sort of stuff should be available all year round. Why do all the best things only ever appear at this festive time, for most part of the year I am struggling to buy anything half decent. This is my hangup: there is nothing to be cheery about stuck in a Christmas shopping queue, listening to piped xmas music with children running riot. I refuse to have any kind of tinsel or festive cheer around my home, the xmas cards that appear are merely a front of my former family life if to only appease a few. My personal 6 reasons why I choose to ditch the landline for a VOIP phone! 1. No line rental charges 2. Cheaper call charges 3. 30 day contract or pay as you go terms 4. FREE incoming calls 5. No setup charges 6. UK local number supplied FREE You may all be thinking another SKYPE story, actually no! I was a little sceptical at first but after doing some research I found it was fairly easy and cheap to use any existing phone or mobile on the a VOIP service. There are many different companies offering very similar packages however it all depends what you want and how you want to achieve the savings. Some offer you a FREE number, others charge you, some charge you to receive calls, they all ideally would want you to sign up to a monthly rolling contract either way, but you don't need to. New Year just around the corner - new beginning and new opportunities?

@RebeccaF I liked your post that much I thought it better with it's own spot rather than stifling sat under mine... That's Christmas over for another year, and now we have the changing of the year to look forward to. It is always a bright part for me, it is a new beginning, you cant say you have had a horrible year yet because its only just begun and 12 months to the next Christmas stretch out before you. Does anyone else feel that renewal / rebirth feeling around this time of the year when you can imagine anything can happen?

Mac or PC? 6 reasons to own a Mac a personal choice!

Right I am now going to shatter your preconceptions of the Mac 6 reasons to own a Mac my personal choice! I have been lucky enough to had the experience and use a wide variety of systems over the last 20+ years. The last 5 were spent testing out the Mac mini. One of my many personal projects was testing software on windows based machines, I was surprised at how much software I needed to install to just do some of my basic projects. Windows came with some half descent software but nothing to do some serious stuff like editing code, web design or viewing pdf files without installing third party softwares and thus I accumulated over 15 or so free/shareware softwares just for my main productivity work. Don't get me wrong for the average person Windows works right out of the box they even had a cool video editing software tool but it soon became apparent that Microsoft wasn't prepared to keep support very long on any of it's releases and I was again in a position by where either t

Change my iD account username?

Over a year ago this question was answered... https://community.idmobile.co.uk/app-and-my-account-23/how-do-i-change-my-id-account-username-30239 “I know it sounds a little confusing and I hope that we allow usernames to be re-introduced or simplify the process in the future! Mohammed”   I am now hoping we can bury this issue once and for all, I have changed my email address on hundreds of sites over countless years and only ID Mobile have a username policy stuck in the dark ages. Is it planned any time soon that we all can update our username to the email address on the ID Mobile account?  I am tired of seeing my old email address as a login, it is very confusing to remember something I no longer use...

An Air of Science Fiction Buffoonery I never did pay much attention in lessons at school, teachers would throw chalk at me when ever I was looking distracted, maybe it was the medication I was on, or maybe I was distracted, or was it that ever so slightly floaty feeling you get when you get up too fast, but when your sat in a chair can give the impression of looking distracted. English Literature wasn't any different to that floaty feeling, reading was not really my thing back then, it still ins't. I class reading like watching a film, you wouldn't turn off the film half way through, only to continue the next day. So I approach books in the same ridiculous manner, if I can't start and finish it in just over an hour I don't bother starting, I do have books I just haven't started any. English Literature would begin on Monday of every week with a visit to the school library, I would always find myself drawn to the Science Fiction section, and found myself grabbing something I picked

TSB banking terms for interest on classic plus account

Classic Plus interest is paid on balances up to £1,500. To earn interest (which is paid monthly): pay in a minimum £500 a month, and register for Internet Banking, and sign up for Paperless Statements and Correspondence. I have a TSB account with a balance of around £1500, this rarely changes. I want to take advantage of the interest without changing my main bank so if I pay in the minimum deposit of £500 a month and then withdrawal that same amount a few days later, and then deposit another £500 again the following month and again withdrawal it and so on and so on month after month. Am I still complying with the terms and entitled to the interest on the remaining balance? I can't find and stipulation how long the deposit needs to remain in the account or wether or not a withdrawal so soon after the deposit is still compliant with the terms. I know the actual deposit wont incur interest I am only concerned about the remaining £1,500. Good debate as the interest rat

Mac App Store Profile image not updating

Wanted to share something that was plaguing me for a few weeks… My Mac App Store Profile image wouldn’t update to the new image I was using across all devices and on my Apple ID account. I followed the results from countless internet searches all of which kept pointing me to my Apple ID account or my Mac profile image, which I had already done.  I then came across something completely different, which I nearly ignored, however glad I read the post. It was referring to App Store cache and issues with apps not updating, this got me thinking, what if my image issue was really just as simple as the stored cache on my Mac. So I got to work searching for com.apple.appstore found the caches folder at: ~/library/containers/com.apple.appstore/data/library/caches/  Found the offending image with a really long meaningless name: AAProfilePicture_EA2CE9D1-39FA-4E80-B731-C06EB9691DBC Deleted it and hey presto the App Store retrieved the correct image from my ID account and updated.
