failed to send text message while abroad

My phone won't send texts. I have unlimited text and I tried to send a text message to a UK number when I was in Spain but it failed to deliver. I've tried to do a manual roam to make phone reconnect to id network; turned it off and on; and tried flight mode. And it still not sent. iMessage is working for me, just the normal text message. Anyone got any suggestions please?
