Transfering phone number

A friend who has/had an Idmobile a/c changed to a sim only deal.(with ID mobile). Because he never followed the correct procedure he has been advised he cannot transfer his old phone number to the new sim. To me it’s seems a bit strange as ID mobile owns both phone numbers. Could someone comment and is it possible to talk to someone on the phone rather than online chat. (I think his old phone a/c has been cancelled ,but guess this could be reinstated ?)To add to his problems he cannot login to his gmail a/c as it requires 2 step verification using his old phone number (he decided to change  his password)

upgrade ,do I need to insert the new sim

I have upgraded my current plan to pay monthly 12 months. ie £5  The new sim is in the post, but i cannot physically access because I am in hospital. The new plan is unlimited phone calls unlimited txt and 3 gb gata.The app shows unlimited  calls and txts but the data  is 1.5 of 1.8gb Do I have to physically insert the new sim as mins txts are ok but not data and/or will the data will get updated automatically to 3gb I also bought a £6 addon for more mins as i thought I might run out,but with hindsight that was not really required. Do I assume that was a waste as I was not sure howlong the upgrade would take effect plus not sure if I had to put in the new sim to activate thecalls/txt and data. Could I get a refund on the £6 or is that discretionary and how would I get in contactif that was allowed.

text to 85258

This is a free text service which was sent to me to show how it works and the service it provides. You can text  the word shout to 85258 , but when I do that it comes back message not delivered.The above is listed available to Id mobile. using iphone 11. Sms is turned on in settings where it says send as sms when imessage is unavailable. so should not have to turn off imessage if that had anyting to do wit itI know it is a working service so not sure why it will not work on phone. Have tried turning off & on
