I'm thinking of switching my id physical SIM to an id esim. Can I keep my number and if so, how do I go about it?

Terry.

This link may help, @zznw4m

Thanks for the response, however I've, already checked this out. It tells you how to activate an esim and how to change from an esim to a physical sim but nothing about going the other way.

Terry.

Hi @zznw4m

We’ll be able to issue an eSIM if you’re sure you’d like this, please let us know if you’d like us to get in touch.

Okay @zznw4m, when asking for a replacement SIM, just request an eSIM instead of physical SIM.

Your existing iD SIM would be deactivated when you request a replacement, so it’s a matter of waiting for the QR code from iD in order to install the eSIM on your handset. Once installed just activate the eSIM via the usual iD channels.

Hi @zznw4m,
I hope that you managed to get this resolved.

If you require further assistance, please let us know.

Advice appreciated

Hi there @Kat18sgc

Due to an increase in attempted eSIM fraud (not accusing you, just giving the reason) the only way to obtain a replacement eSIM is via live chat. I guess you spotted the request a replacement SIM on the app but not eSIM.

https://www.idmobile.co.uk/live-chat

(note the opening times on that link)

It will be emailed to you and must be opened on the device you want to use it on.

Ok, Das, thanks for reply, given that,I think I'll just stick with the physical one then 👍

No problem @Kat18sgc 👍

If you change your mind at least you know how to. Whether or not eSIMs will be available from the app in the future is anyone’s guess🤐

Cheers Daz,got It right this time, being of an older generation I'm wary of new things so I'll give it a miss, just read that e SIM was more secure than the other one, had my phone robbed off me in recent past so thought to change but as you say, too much scammers, I'll no fix what works 😉

Thnx again for help

It’s fine @Kat18sgc I knew what you meant 😉

Oh yes this modern time with live in. And indeed new techie things can be very daunting.

Yes an eSIM is safer as some rotten so-and-so can’t take it out our phone and pop into his/hers. But I totally understand your caution for wanting to try.

The genuine iD staff on here may offer an alternative method to obtain a eSIM (probably after an invite to private messages), as you don’t want to go via live chat. Though note the info at the bottom of all of my posts “Only genuine iD Mobile staff have iD Mobile Employee after their name”. I felt I had to announce there are some so-and-so’s on here too, pretending to be iD employees. Never post names, numbers, account details as no genuine person would ask for these and that goes for any other website you may go on.

And don’t get me going about others pinching phones, that is one of my annoyances (← I should keep this polite). But I really am sorry to hear you were robbed 😥

I was brought up knowing that if we couldn’t afford it we didn’t need it or can’t have it! If only others thought the same way.

The one thing I do with my phone is sign out of any apps I’m not using (I don’t save passwords on the phone either). My wife has biometrics* set on hers to unlock the phone.

*isn’t that a posh techie word. Basically it needs her finger print to unlock her phone.

Although having a near miss myself - I felt my phone moving and it wasn’t me moving it - I now have a phone case the has a very strong string hoop. The hoop gets clipped to a key ring holder in my inner zip up pocket. But we shouldn’t have to do this.
