I am unable to use my existing SIM card. This is not a recently issued card, I have had it a long time with no issues. It is used in an iPad which is normally on WiFi but I occasionally use it away from home. All the posts I have seen refer to new SIM cards. Can you help!

It certainly sounds like the SIM has become faulty.
We can either send a new SIM out or you can collect one from your local Curry’s store.
