Avoid cross border roaming charges

If you’re traveling near the border of two countries, you may unknowingly connect to a network mast in the bordering country – this may result in you incurring higher roaming charges, especially if the bordering country is not part of our 50 Inclusive Roaming destinations.

Example 1 (Inclusive / Non-Inclusive Border)

If you’re in Cyprus (Greece) – which is one of Inclusive Roaming destinations, and you’re near the border of Cyprus (Turkey), which is not an Inclusive Roaming destination, you’d incur additional roaming charges, if you were to connect to a network mast in Turkey.

Example 2 (UK / Inclusive Border)

If you’re in Northern Ireland and close to the border of The Republic of Ireland, you may pick up a mast in the Republic of Ireland – while the Republic of Ireland is one of our Inclusive Roaming destinations, If you were to run out of your inclusive allowances, or reach your Fair Usage Data cap, you’d incur additional roaming charges. Should you run out of allowances when in one of our Inclusive Roaming destinations, you’ll be charged at our standard out-of-plan rates.

View our out-of-plan charges or International and Roaming charges.

So, when you near the border of two countries, always check that the name of the network shown on your phone is within the country you are currently travelling in. Click here for a full list of our inclusive roaming networks (by country).

Or, if you wish to completely remove any risk of additional roaming charges, we recommend that you turn off 'Data Roaming' via the iD Mobile app or your device settings.
