The first organized celebration of Star Wars Day took place in 2011 at the Toronto Underground Cinema in Canada, filled with costume contests, trivia games, and mash-ups of fan-favourite clips.

As the popularity of Star Wars Day grew, it became a day for all things Star Wars—movie marathons, special merchandise releases, and even themed parties.
