why does the phone contracted to ID Mobile not work

my sons phone that I pay for is contracted with ID mobile and his contracted phone doesn't receive messages or calls ... reception is so bad 90% of the time and I don't understand why messages don't receive or send.. can someone help?

Has this only recently occurred or always been the case?

Have you tried restarting the phone to see if this helps?

How many bars of coverage does he have on the device?

@Mohammed  yes its happened for months now and I've rebooted the phone a lot and it makes no difference.  He has reception bars also so it makes no sense  :(

There was some maintenance in that area recently, but that’s since been completed. How long have you been using the SIM card? have you tried it in a different handset to see how it behaves then?
