The New Year means new holidays, especially when we’re still stuck in frosty winter and dreaming of some sunshine! But knowing where to go and how to plan can get pretty overwhelming – especially when you want to get the most out of your precious annual leave.

Fortunately, the phone in your pocket has all the answers. There are loads of great apps out there that can help you find the ideal holiday based on your preferences and budget, so the stress doesn’t need to start until you’re running through the airport trying to find your gate!

Check out these 10 apps to help take care of the holiday plans:

1.Hopper

Hopper specialises in cheap flights, but it covers hotels and car rentals too. It analyses billions of flights to find the best deals and predicts when prices will be lowest. It’ll even let you freeze prices for later booking. You can also set up alerts for the flights you're interested in, so you know when to book.

2.Skyscanner

Skyscanner has become a favourite in recent years as it’s great at finding the cheapest flights, no matter where you want to go. It searches the market for you and shows you the lowest prices available, making it easy to find the best deals. You can also set up alerts for specific routes, so you'll be notified when the prices change.

3.Secret Escapes

If you’re planning to spoil yourself or a loved one, Secret Escapes is a must-have app. It will take you away to des res spots in places like Tuscany and Sardinia. You can even filter by Spa breaks, Family friendly or even Romantic trips. Let the bubbly flow!

4.TripAdvisor

TripAdvisor is a must-have app for anyone looking to plan a holiday. It has over 860 million reviews and opinions from other travellers, making it easy to find recommendations for hotels, restaurants and things to do. You can even use the "Near Me Now" feature to find must-see spots close to your current location

5.Rome2rio

There are plenty of apps that can help you book a flight, but working out how to get from one city to another in a foreign country can be tough – especially if you don’t speak the language. Rome2rio is an app that helps you plan your travel itinerary. It shows you the best ways to get from one place to another, whether it's by plane, train, bus or car. You can also see the estimated travel time and cost for each option.

6.Expedia

Expedia is an all-in-one app for booking flights, hotels, car rentals and activities. You can easily compare prices and get the best deals for your trip. The app also offers exclusive discounts and rewards when you roll all of your bookings into one – flight + hotel for example.

For me and my good lady, we'll be off on a cruise starting in Tenerife, and arriving 14 days later in Greece. That's for my 60th, and then we'll be back in Greece for a couple of weeks later in the year for her 50th. A big year for holiday celebrations!

Two longish trips this summer.

In June, we will drive around Scotland with my brother’s family who has never been to Scotland. We will start in Glasgow (where I went to med school in the 1980s- looking forward to the Hunterian Museum and Burrell Collection). Then we will drive through the Scottish highlands via Loch Lomond, Glencoe, Fort William (going up gondola to Aonach Mor beside Ben Nevis), admiring Glenfinnan Viaduct, before crossing over to Skye (for the fairy pools and the old man of Storr).

Then back to the mainland via the Kyle of Lochalsh to Poolewe (for Invereure Scottish National Trust garden), Golspie (for Dunrobin castle), Pitlochry and finishing in Edinburgh.

The second trip in July/Aug is to the far east for my niece’s wedding in Singapore. Whilst there, we will visit Perhentian Besar island, KB, JB and KL in Malaysia and Bali. I have not been back to that part of the world for over ten years and certainly not back to Kota Bharu (my birth place) since I left aged 10.

I'd love to visit Cape Town and ride on the Railway Market stream train, it's a 3.5 hour journey on an old steam train. The train has a scenic carriage, lounge carriage, and a bar. You can choose your carriage to ride in, and tickets start at about £37. There are many places nearby to see too.

We are booked for the beautiful island of Kos 😍, roll on July get me on that sunbed with a cocktail in my hand 🍸

I am planning my honeymoon to Venice, never been so really looking forward to it.

If the weather is good in the UK, then Pembrokshire is awesome, espicially Tenby, Saundersfoot or Narberth and you can take the dog. If its noy=t to good then we will head to Denia, lovely uncrowded beaches and stunning restaraunts.
