Since joining iD Mobile, I have received a stream of useless and annoying ‘service messages’ telling me do things like install the app or check my data usage.
Is there a way to turn these emails off, or should I just set up a rule to route them straight to my spam folder?

You can change these preferences in your “My iD Account” online or the iD app

Thanks, but I already disabled these preferences immediately when I opened the account. It looks like these other emails are sent regardless of those preferences.

The iD Community account and the “My iD Account” online are two different logins, which each have a way managing email preferences. You may need to double-check both these iD logins.
