A few years back I had a YouTube channel that was linked to a gmail account. My only backup for that gmail account was a phone number I had with iD mobile. I hadn’t logged into my YouTube account for a while until one day I realised I had over 14,000 subscribers !

The issue is that now Google won’t let me sign back in without 2 Step Verification, which can ONLY be confirmed with this old phone number.. that iD mobile have ‘deactived’.

Phone numbers are recycled all the time, so I don’t see why this number can’t be reactived so that I can receive a code from Google. I would give my right arm to get this Youtube account back!

I’m sure Google allows you to authenticate an account login in other ways.

Can’t you use the Google Authenticator app to receive 2-Step verification codes?

The app’s support page at https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/1066447 says “You can still receive codes without internet connection or mobile service.”

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to reply.

If I’m not mistaking the Authenticator app is designed to work once you’ve signed into your Google account, then you set up 2 step verification for future sign in. However if you know a way to sign into my account using this that’d be great!

Okay @scipiox3, you could try and recover your Google Account.

Can’t recover through Google. There must be a way to get an old phone number back no?

I’d expect your old phone number to have been recycled by now @scipiox3.

Currently, iD Mobile don’t have a process for allocating a specific mobile number to a customer - numbers are allocated ‘randomly’.

Thanks for the help so far! I’ve tried calling this number and it seems unavailable to call.. I’m fairly certain it hasn’t been recycled yet. Is there any way (I can even pay) to have iD Mobile let me have the number?

I’m not sure the number being unavailable to call indicates the number is available to anybody wanting it.

Have a chat with iD Mobile’s social media team on facebook (using Messenger), or Twitter (by DM).

They might be able to assist - good luck @scipiox3.

Hello @scipiox3

Unfortunately not.

We can look at reconnections and this is often within 30-days but only done if we have made an error in disconnecting your account.

If the number has been disconnected due to no-error and/or it’s past this time-frame, this number would be lost and my only advice is to speak to Google to see if they can assist in recovering the account another way. It does seem bizarre that there isn’t a manual way to recover the account in the case of the 2 factor authentication not being possible even if the process does take time.
