I upgraded today as my old phone contract runs out in a couple of weeks.
Can I reset the old phone and pass it on to my wife, and put her SIM card (giffgaff) in? (Once the new phone has arrived and been activated.) Is there anything I need to do to deactivate the old one other than a full system reset?
Will the new phone take my existing SIM?

You can absolutely do that, it’s a great way to saver some money, I did the same with my Wife.
Your new phone probably will take your existing SIM (depends on size) but it should come with a new one anyway that we would recommend activating upon arrival.
