Hi Everyone,

I am hoping someone here will be able to help me. I have a Pixel 4a (5G). Wherever it connects to a 5g network I have issues with making phone calls and network drop out. I wanted to turn off the 5g part and stick with 4g which seems to work seamlessly.

I have googled how to turn of the 5g but all of the guides show options in the menu that I cannot see. It seems as though ID have hidden some of the options.

Any help will be gratefully received.

All the best

The mobile networks often hide certain options to prevent their customers from making unwanted changes and this could be one of them.

I know iD hide certain Wi-Fi Calling options, compared to EE for example.
Looks like iD might be doing it with network selection option for mobile data as well.

Anyway, good luck @Daniel Provis.

Hi @Daniel Provis

Please try the following;

Go to settings, select Network and Internet, SIMs, select Preferred network type and you should be able to switch between 3G/4G and 5G here.

Hi Tom,

The option to select preferred network type is not there.

I have just checked for the option on my iD Mobile supplied Pixel 6 and I can confirm that the option to change preferred network type is indeed missing. In fact, many of the options are either greyed out or missing completely which is something I have never seen before! 😮

There is another way:

  • Open phone dialler and type in * # * # 4636 # * # * then tap on "phone information"
  • Change "Set network preferred type"

Default value should you want to revert back to factory setting:

NR/LTE/GSM/WCDMA

(NR = 5G / LTE = 4G / GSM = 2G / WCDMA = 3G)
