All fields competed but the system says it cannot go further but does not tel me what the error is - Frankly I am regretting starting the whole thing

Sorry to hear that.
You need to make sure the transaction number is the one that begins with 4.
You can also register an iD account and click My Services > Keep your number to port your number without a trasnaction number.
