I’m using a phone SIM in a 5g router (Zyxel NR5103ev2) with a view to buying an unlimited data-only SIM. Trouble is, I can’t get any incoming connections to work; scanning the IP address I’m allocated by Three shows all ports closed regardless of what I do on the router. Is this standard with 3? or with ID Mobile? And does anyone have a solution?
Hi
Welcome to the Community!
We can’t guarantee the SIM working with a router and vice versa.
Have you tested the SIM in a handset?
Kash
To answer your question and my own:
Yes, the SIM works fine in my phone.
It also works fine in the router, for outgoing connections like browsing, streaming videos, email etc.
It doesn’t accept incoming connections because it doesn’t provide the router with a public IP address; it uses a CGNAT connection, which is effectively a one way street onto the internet. Seems that’s true of all the phone SIMs using the Three network, and no doubt other providers too.
