if I begin using the new number to test the system and determine whether IDmobile is suitable for me!
Once I decide it’s what I want can I port my number across at a later date?
How long have I got to do this?
or is it something that needs to be done immediately?

It doesn’t have to be done immediately
I’m not sure if there is a time limit, but I guess you’re using a 1-month rolling SIM only plan. I’d expect to see a number transfer option for at least 1-month.

I recently went with Virgin/O2 but despite being assured by the coverage checker my coverage is quite poor.

Don’t rely on the online coverages checkers, as they only show predicted not actual coverage, at any given location.
I’m pleased to say my SIM is working fine. I’m hoping that the network will be better than Virgin/O2. Which has been bloody terrible.

We use Three UK’s network for coverage vs Virgin/O2 who use O2.
