Hi,

I can receive SMS while abroad. I then reply with another SMS but my correspondant does receive the message. Why is that? And how can I fix the problem?

If you outside the EU inclusive roaming destinations, and your iD account bill cap is set to £0, you won’t been able to call, send texts or use roaming mobile data @Irenee Scalbert

You might need to adjust your bill cap, or use a Wi-Fi connection and WhatsApp instead.

Thank you kindly for your reply.

My bill cap is set to an additional £10 over and above my contract. Could this not be enough? Or could there be another issue?

  • Is the text from someone in the UK?
If yes, have you replied using +447 are the prefix?
  • Are you in an EU inclusive roaming destination, or are you roaming in a destination where iD charge for all usage?
  • How much of your bill cap has been used in the current billing cycle?

Thank you.

- The person who sent me an SMS but did not receive mine was in France. I sent mine using the French prefix 0033.

- I was also in France.

- None of my bill cap had been used.

Okay @Irenee Scalbert, maybe the following might be worth trying:

  • Try using the +33 prefix for the person in France, instead of 0033.
  • Try composing a text and sending to the +33 number, instead of replying.

It’s also possible there might be a network issue, or an issue with your iD account.

In addition, the GSM technical specification for SMS messaging doesn’t guarantee delivery of an SMS - they’re normally delivered but sometimes delivery fails.
