new phone and sim

I bought my son a new iPhone 11 at the end of November for Christmas, SIM card didn’t arrive separately however I didn’t realise this until we had to transfer phone number. Did live chat on the 27th was told new sim would be sent and number transferred for us, activated on the 29th. No sim arrived, spoke to an advisor who said new sim hadn’t been sent, he would send one 2-3 days. It has now arrived, put into the phone - nothing! Should it be activated immediately, no sign of the network appearing on his phone?

 

really loosing patience with ID mobile - can’t access live chat either.

 

please can someone offer assistance?
