I'm in Colombia and have uk sim. I've bought extra data and have avoided roaming but my charges have shot up by £34 in 2 days. Why isn't the extra data I bought covering this?

You can’t use your allowances or data add-ons whilst outside of EU Roaming destinations.
In this case you would be charged for roaming. You can see the cost of usage on the table below:

Use free Wi-Fi whenever possible, and WhatsApp, or something similar.
Otherwise, buy a local SIM to use while in Colombia

As above, the cheapest to actually use service is likely a local SIM card.
Cheaper than that is using Whatsapp and WiFi as it won’t cost you anything.
Make sure to set your spend cap to £0.00 to avoid any charges and your phone connecting to non inclusive destinations.
