I put my pay as you go sim into this device. I am connected to it using the iPad but on the device the signal bar is red. Sometimes yellow. Is this sim not comparable in my area or is there an issue with the sim in this mobile Wi-Fi

Your device might be network locked
Where did you purchase this mobile broadband Wi-Fi router?
The device is unlocked. I purchased it from Amazon. It would work with the smarty sim but the ID sim won’t work. I didn’t even receive my welcome email to enable me to set up the account for ID mobile
Unfortunately, iD Mobile only approve & support the use of iD SIM cards in mobile phones
You could try manually editing the APN profile on the mobile broadband Wi-Fi router.
The settings are online at https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/get-your-settings - then scroll down to “Manual Settings” section.

I’d recommend trying the iD Mobile SIM card in a supported device to see if it works there.
