Quite possibly the worst mobile network on planet Earth – ID Mobile
Welcome to 2025, where even my toaster has better signal than ID Mobile. 99% of the time you’re blessed with either no network, no internet, or a magical combination of both. Their app? Oh, a true masterpiece of digital garbage – slow, buggy, and refuses to let you top-up or buy a plan when you actually need it. But don’t worry – you wouldn’t get service anyway even if it did work. Let’s talk about customer service – or rather, a collective of confused people who have no clue what their own company even offers. Every single time I walk into a store and ask for a simple PAYG top-up, the staff stare at me like I just asked them to explain quantum physics. “We don’t offer that service,” they say... while I’ve been using it for SIX YEARS. It’s like they’re working for a company they’ve never even heard of. And online payments? LOL. Try praying to the gods, it might work faster. For at least three years, topping up online has been a complete joke. And nobody gives a damn. Currently, my plan is supposedly active until June 28th – at least according to their stupid app – but guess what? It expired a week ago. No data, no calls, and NO WAY to fix it because the app blocks me from topping up, thinking I still have a plan running. Last month, I added £20 to get the unlimited plan. The app refused to let me buy it until the current plan expired. But instead of warning me when it did, the system sneakily started eating up my credit, bit by bit, for God knows what. Boom – £20 gone. Had to top-up AGAIN just to function like a normal human being. And here’s the cherry on top: I’m 100% sure they have access to every single customer chat log, so they can easily check how many times I personally have contacted them with the exact same issues over and over again. But do they care? Of course not. Even now, their useless chatbot kicks me out of the queue before I can even speak to a real human being. It’s like their entire system is designed to frustrate and ignore you until you give up. Avoid this company like the plague.
Calling (or more) not available in PAYG due to alleged lack of credit
I wanted to resume my old topic, because the problem turned out to have never disappeared, and recently it’s been pestering me more than ever. It was the topic: Since it’s been archived in the meantime, I had to create a new one. Anyway, the problem is exactly what the title says. Even though I still have well enough credit for calling or whatever, and there’s still long until it expires, the service regularly does not allow me to use it. I really rarely call someone, and when I do, it’s usually urgent. And every time it is urgent, the problem comes up. When trying to call someone, most of the time I just hear “You are currently unable to make calls cos' you are out of calling credits”. Although now there are some differences compared to the occurrences of the problem from the past...1. In the past, with the problem taking place, when calling the automated iD Mobile service to hear how much credit I had, I would instead hear that they were experiencing some technical difficulties. These days, sometimes I hear the same thing but most of the time I hear that I "have no credit available and no remaining allowances". Also, I hear it even when the problem is actually (for a moment!) not taking place.2. This time, with the problem taking place, contrary to the past, I am still able to use mobile data (just the calling is not working). To make it clear, the sufficient amount of credit is there and can always be seen after logging to my iD Mobile account. It's so irritating – someone (me) uses the "calling" function only occasionally, usually in more serious cases and being out of home, and they can't do that! I think it may be the very time to change the provider...
Unable to make calls or send texts on PAYG
I have an intermittent issue with making calls, which has occurred on-and-off since I transferred my number to ID mobile some years ago. Sometimes, when I try to make a call, I am met with the “you are unable to make calls as you are out of calling credit” message. However, when I check on the app, I still have plenty of credit left (and I haven’t received any recent low balance warning text messages from ID). If I attempt to call 7777 to check the balance over-the-phone, it tells me “we’re experiencing some technical difficulties at the moment and is unable to tell me my balance”.While this is going on, I can also still use mobile data (4G) as normal, except I am unable to use the ID Mobile app (or visit my.idmobile.co.uk) while on mobile data. They only work on WiFi - thus I wouldn’t be able to top up if I didn’t have a WiFi connection to use instead. I contacted the live chat about this today and the rep insisted that my account showed a balance of £0.00 (while the app was still showing me approx. £3.50). However he did suggest the following:1. Airplane mode on2. Remove SIM3. Restart4. Insert SIM5. Airplane mode offThis seemed to temporarily resolve the problem, and I could make calls, check balance via 7777 (with an amount which matched what I saw in the app), and use the ID Mobile app on data, but then this all stopped working only a few minutes later. Obviously popping my SIM every time I want to make a phone call is not a real solution (and I haven’t actually been able to get this to work again since anyway - I think it may have just been coincidence). I have also tried the same sim in another phone (an iPhone 11) but with no change. Is there anything else I should try or is this an account issue on ID’s end beyond my control? I do remember having some minor issues when I first brought my number across so maybe my account was never provisioned correctly in the first place?
