I have just topped up my PAYGO phone but I can’t make calls or send SMS. I can use data though.
Do I **have** to have a ‘Call Plan’ in order to make calls and/or send SMS? I’m sure I didn’t originally need one, I just topped up and then I could make calls etc.

No, I don’t need a call plan to make calls - **in the UK**, there I will get the out-of-plan rates 3-2-1.
However when in a roaming location, even a ‘roam like at home’ one then one needs a much bigger balance (or cap) to make calls because of the higher cost. The 3-2-1 rates **don’t** apply when roaming.
This should be made clear somewhere.
