Can I convert my 1 month contract to PAYG?

Hi,

I’m leaving the UK for a few months and won’t be able to use my UK iD mobile allowance. I’m on a 1-month contract but don’t want to lose my number. How do I convert it to a PAYG SIM so I can just add bundles to it when I get back to the UK?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi @andrewwyatt991,

Welcome to the Community!

Unfortunately we are unable to change the account from monthly to Pay as you go.

You can however change your plan to a cheaper one in the meantime.

What about this: https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/returns-cancellations#simple

This page clearly says: “You can keep using your SIM as a Pay As You Go SIM card

So, it appears that after cancelling the contact, the sim automatically becomes pay as you go.

Is it not true?

Anyone there to confirm that the answer by @Kash is incorrect or the info I have sent above is incorrect?

@andrewwyatt991 what did you do then? Did you continue paying monthly charge or did you convert to pay as you or switched to some other network?

If nothing works then the last option is to get PAC code from iD Mobile and switch to another provider keeping the same number. You can then continue pay as you go with that other provider or if in the future you would like to switch back to one of iD’s plans then I suppose you can do the same process but this time getting the PAC from that other provider and bringing the same number back on iD mobile.

Hello @saaz

Thanks for your reply.

I can confirm the information provided by Kash is correct and we are not able to convert a plan from monthly to Pay As You Go.

Hi there @saaz

Granted that page could have been better worded IMHO, plus it is somewhat out of date. The full bit you quoted states this

It's easy to cancel in the iD Mobile app

Simply log in, go to the 'My account' page, and on the 'Manage my plan' tile click 'End my plan'. Please be aware that we need at least 30 day’s notice before your contract ends*. You can keep using your SIM as a Pay As You Go SIM card, or cut it up once you’ve cancelled your plan.

So by ending your plan there is no active account associated with your number. And the reason why the number is moved to a non functioning (as in you can’t make or receive calls or send/receive texts or use any data) PAYG SIM is to give you the opportunity to PAC that number elsewhere.

And currently we can’t move our account (thus number) between a 30day/12/24month contract to PAYG or vice versa directly with iDM. You can however triangle port your number (which involves moving your number away from iDM and back again with a new email address and new account)
