Why have I been charged £9.60 for making calls to the UK from Rhodes - I understood from the text I received I could use my phone as at home and these calls would be taken from my allowance ??

You might have been caught out by using your phone on a ferry
The rates onboard are pretty steep…

Furthermore, Rhodes is bordered by Turkey and if you had automatic network selection on, this may have connected to a Turkish network (which is not inclusive) and incurred charges.
