sim was working but now locked

My sim has worked for nearly 2 years, but yesterday I got an intermittent ‘sim locked’ message. Yesterday late morning this was no longer intermittent and my sim is now locked. I’ve not set up a pin or made any changes to my settings so this has come out of the blue. 
 

I have restarted the phone, reinstalled the sim several times and also checked it in my daughter’s phone. It’s still says sim locked. 
 

Any urgent advice would be really appreciated. Thank you.

If the phone displays SIM locked then someone had not only entered an incorrect SIM pin three times but also ten incorrect PUK codes. Once a SIM is locked due to such activity it cannot be unlocked and you will require a replacement SIM.
