Can’t access voicemail abroad

I am in Dubai and cannot access my voicemail.

I have roaming turned on and appear to be connected to a network.  I have texts saying ‘phone this +44 number to access voicemail’ and when I try this there is no connection. I have tried phoning 123 and again no connection.

I have WiFi on and WiFi calling turned on also.

When my husband sat next to me phones my phone it goes straight  to voicemail. What do I need to do to get my messages? Thank you

I am in Cape Verde with the same frustrating problem. 1.5 hrs on the chat assistant, no resolution, put £100 on my account for charges and not resolved. Very stressful and ruining a holiday. The chat assistants were not helpful sending me clips from the website that I had already seen. Very disappointing service

Hi @Michaela207,

Welcome to the Community!

Do you have a cap on the account? You’ll need to have a cap above £0 to be charged for making and receiving calls.

You’ll need to make sure that set up voicemail before you travel and you can check the link below for further information.

Mine was just the same. I had money in my account (which seemed to have all become then used up just trying to use my phone without success) and my phone didn’t work at all. I couldn’t receive phone calls, make a call or access my voicemail.  Really frustrating and poor service.

My husband is on Three, and ID use the Three network, and he can call. I cannot. It is rubbish. I cannot use his phone to call my voicemail because it goes to his voicemail since, you guessed it, ID uses the same network. I’m so stressed out it is just ruining my short break.

Hi @Karen D ,

Whilst in Cape Verde, I would advise that you connect to the networks below:

CV Movel

T+ Telecomunicações (Via Comfone)

You’ll need to manually connect to the networks and test them.

Please also visit the link below for further information.

No, Kash. That does not work because the only network showing is ALOU or Unitel +. Neither of the networks you refer to are showing as available

@Karen D,

Have you tried swapping SIM’s and checking what happens?

I would advise trying this as it will confirm if it’s the SIM or the handset.

Just checking. So you have the following enabled on your account, via Plan and then Manage your iD services:

  • International on (on will show the toggle button in blue)
  • Roaming on
  • Voicemail on

If any are grey toggle it on (to blue) and click save

On your phone have you manually turned roaming on?

And for Dubai you’re connecting to Du or Etisalat (manually connecting sometimes helps but remember you would need to manually reconnect after putting the phone into flight/airplane mode or if the phone was restarted and remember to turn it back to auto prior to leaving).

Do you recall getting an automated rate advice text? Our phones didn’t work until we got this text from iD when my wife and I were in Europe. You only get it once per destination.

WiFi calling is only for use in the UK. If you turn off WiFi calling and manually dial 123 from the phones keypad does this call your voicemail? Or if you press and hold number 1 does this attempt to call your voicemail?

There is every chance you hit the automatic roaming limit of £45 hence why this didn’t work. This limit can be upped via live chat (← IIRC)

Other than that if you had the account and phone set correctly and you had a billing cap high enough and didn’t hit their £45 roaming cap then I’m not sure why this didn’t work.

@Karen D if you could check yours is set as per the above

And according to iD’s own site the roaming partners you needed for Cape Verde are actually CV Movel or Unitel

So you could try manually connecting to Unitel + (being as that’s one you can see via your phone). I’m not sure where “ T+ Telecomunicações (Via Comfone)” comes from as its not one the page I just looked at
