Charge to Bill

Just watched Rip off Britain. It seems that if a phone is stolen, criminals can run up bills on that phone useing what is called Charge to Bill. ID should disable such app unless specifically requested by the true phone’s owner. How do we poor mortals go about it?

From my understanding (and your posts did make me have a read up on this) you need to set this up. And from a quick google I can’t find any reference to iD Mobile having a Charge to Bill partner. If someone knows otherwise then let me know.

But I would think that if you set your billing cap to £0, this would stop so-and-so’s from using your phone if they stole it and tried to make payments with your phone anyway.

Also, having read this on EE’s site

There's a limit of £240 a month for these charges (providing that your credit allows this) and £40 per single transaction.

I’ve noted they say this depends on your credit limit.

Hey there @Clive Pulley, thank you for reaching out.

If a phone is stolen, we are able to request a blacklisting of the phone, and barring of the SIM card, so that the phone cannot be used again. If you lose your phone or it’s stolen, we’d recommend customers contact us right away to do so, to prevent anything from happening such as this.

Thanks,

Tyler

Even if reported stolen, some phone companies are allowing Charge to Bill. I feel that this service (?) should not be on phones anyway. Can iD remove it?

Hi @Clive Pulley

As @Daz_S suggests, if you set your bill cap up, you’d never go above that limit.
