Why won't a 00800 number connect?

I am trying to resolve an issue with Air China and the only phone number they provide begins 00800

I understand that this is an international freephone number

Unfortunately, when I dial it the screen shows “Air China” but there is a voice telling me that it is “unable to connect this call” and there is no ringing tone

Why will this call not connect, please?

Hey there @Danul, we’re sorry to hear that.

If you're calling them from the UK to China, you’ll need to ensure you have international features enabled via the iD Mobile app/website, and that your bill cap is high enough to allow the call.

Cost of calls to China can be found here:

I also believe the dial code of 0086 will need to be entered when calling.

Thanks,

Tyler

Thanks for you reply!

I do have all my international roaming and whatnot switched on but it’s not a chinese number, (which would indeed be 0086) it’s definitely 00800 and is a number for all of their European customer service.

Apparently, It’s an international freephone number, the equivalent of 0800, except international not domestic. Why they can’t give me a geographic number for where the call centre is based (which is believe is Germany ), I do not know. A number starting 0049 would be a breeze :-)

((incidentally, I found a number for Air China London offices and they gave me an email address that doesn’t work either! So i complained  to the people who I booked through and they’re going to try and resolve it))

Still curious as to why 00800 won’t connect. Apparently it’s fine from a landline, and O2 but I’ll never know as I don’t have either one of those

Not to worry. Thank you again
