CES 2023: the future of phones

I am constantly losing my glasses and because I can’t see without them I can’t find them when they’re lost. I can locate my phone, I can locate my watch, I can locate my iPad, I can locate my AirPods… now I just need a feature so I can “see” my glasses. iWear. You saw it here first!

My washing machine. Old one on its last legs so we stretched ourselves to buy a Samsung. Such a good, reliable machine, does a great wash and you can even operate it from your phone  What’s not to love - apart from the price tag?!

I would love to take my husband to Hong Kong. His grandfather was in a prisoner of war camp there during WW2. Being there would bring a connection that they never had an opportunity to make. It would be a place we could remember, reflect and pay our respects for the many who sacrificially gave so much for us.

I make myself a latte and sit down to drink it with a bakery treat. I then count my blessings (and there are many) and remind myself there really is nothing to feel blue about really. After that, I get off my backside and message, ring or visit someone who is probably feeling bluer than me and try to bring a little sunshine to their day, which in turn brings sunshine to mine.

At the end of the day, after the little ones are in bed, all I want to do is put my feet up. Instead of sticking on the TV, fiddling on Facebook or just vegging I give my brain a quick workout by playing Puzzle Page or CodyCross. Great games that get your mind in motion. You can play for just a few minutes but they’re very addictive.I also find my mind stretching when playing puzzles with my 4 year old! We got the IXL Learning app for him. He plays it for a short time most days. It’s basically maths and English but he sees it as games. Brilliant! My eyes watered at the price but we purchased it 5 months ago and it’s still getting a lot of use so has been worth the money.

Mind Over Matter: Top Apps to Help You Find Your Calm - Competition

Things that have helped me during lockdown are:1. Getting out every day, come rain, shine or snow for a walk.2. Sticking to a routine, even when there’s no reason to do so.3. Keeping in touch regularly with family and friends.There are two apps I’ve used that greatly helped me too.a) YouVersion is the Bible on your phone but you can sign up to various daily Bible readings, some particularly helpful in our current situation.b) Prayer Mate is a prayer planner which reminds me to pray for friends, family and those who are much worse off than me.So I’ve found getting outside and looking outside of myself has been the best form of self-help during lockdown.

The iD Community Ranks - Competition

One day hiking in Wales I lost my way and scrambled up a hill which became a cliff face. I’m not great with heights and became paralysed with fear, not able to go on or back. I had my mobile but no signal. I prayed and I saw one fleeting bar on my phone so quickly called the Mountain Rescue Team. As soon as I rang off my signal went. So I sat on a tiny ridge in the cold and dark and waited. They found me after about 90 minutes and took me to safety, back to my car and stayed with me till I was in a fit state to drive home. I will never forget what they did for me. I got off that mountain alive and in one piece because of that Mountain Rescue Team - all of whom were volunteers. Amazing self-sacrificial superheroes.
