I needed a mobile for my wife in hospital. I found an old Samsung phone & signed up with iD. Unfortunately, the phone is too old! Solution: swap SIM with my phone which is o2 & is good on the old network till 2025. Problem: I have about £35 of credit on o2. Once she’s out of hospital & I swap my old SIM back, am I better to keep the iD contract unused till I’ve cleared my credit & swap beck & transfer the number, or cancel my iD contract till then & then get a new one?

Problem resolved: I had about £36 of o2 credit on old Samsung. I used to hardly use my phone for calls, so I thought it would last for weeks, if not months while my free iD calls would be unused. In practice, I had to make a few calls I would normally use my landline for & I used most of it very quickly. When I had to send a text to o2 to move my number over to iD, I nearly couldn’t: after the text, I only had 6 pence  on the phone! Talk about cutting it fine. I now have no o2 PAYG & a nice iD contract on my Samsung S23 - very happy.

Hi @JPN

I’m not sure what you mean here, if you’ve got an iD Mobile contract plan you’ll be paying that whether the services are used or not, if you have a Pay As You Go O2 plan with credit left over you could use that until it’s done, but either way the iD Mobile plan would continue to be live and charge monthly.
