My Community Account has gone doolally - probably my fault though - everything else is

So a few days back I started getting notifications for a few solved posts from different community members, though some of them were for posts dated 1-2 months back. I’ve sussed this out and don’t think its related. But as it might I thought I’d mention it just in case.

Anyway, I started getting carried away replying (you don’t realise until you step back and in most cases the lack of feedback kinda makes me wonder why bother typing in the first place) and thus had a very large amount of email notifications for community replies etc. The email side was fine, just a lot sitting in my inbox, but the notifications to replies on my forum side have gone totally toes up.

For the last 2 days when I click on the bell the list is greyed out (though its always done this but not for long) but when it populates the newest posts are not at the top. They can be anywhere on the list.

Here’s a few examples

This one takes a tad longer than it used to, probably about 5-10 seconds extra before any text shows. The bell counter is correct.

The latest reply is from 24 hours prior, not from the same day as what the bell counter and email show. The reply highlighted is still there now at the top so this one seems stuck.

Since this started I have a crude workaround - I can go to the email, click the email, scroll down and tap the Take a look, wait for the new browser tab to open and then read the reply the email relates to. For me to find the same reply on the list on my community account I have to scroll down the other notifications, wait for the lower ones to populate, scroll down more. rinse and repeat before I find the actual latest notification nestled below a reply from 29 days ago. Hence my delayed replies or indeed not replying as I would normally do. Some can be anywhere within 30 days worth of notifications

But even those replies that are not new and were before this glitch are now all over the place, look at the number of days (mostly all 23) and the last one (sorry Ande for using you as an example) was 10 hours ago, and all were already marked as read.

So just to clarify, the bell shows the correct amount of notifications and this tallies with the email notifications, but when trying to look at the newest replies via the bell they could be anywhere.

Anybody else ever had this?

And yes I know stop posting is likely to be the best suggestion/solution

Maybe it might sort itself out.

But there’s no guarantee it’ll fix itself either

(not doing too well with iD, if it ain’t roaming its the signal, if it ain’t the signal is dropped calls, if it ain’t dropped calls its iD’s forums)

Morning @Daz_S,

Notifications are an experimental feature from Gainsight - and looking at your post, you can see why! For now, I’ll switch off Notifications and relay your feedback with our Gainsight account manager.

Posts 1-2 months back may get Marked as ‘Best Answer’ as we backdate this monthly. What issues are you having with Roaming and dropped calls? Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply @Matthew T, I was rather busy yesterday. Basically I was assisting another in sorting out an assisted retirement complex with their phones (I don’t think any are with iD) as 3G was turned off and messed things up quite a bit.

Ooooh, I wondered who’d nicked the bell lol. Although for several days now I’ve had to check the emails and click on the ‘take a look’ to be able to catch all of the replies. I was also spending a fair bit of time scrolling down the list of notifications (via the clanger), allowing the list to populate and then ticking them off as read in case my not doing so was compounding the problem. From looking at this I would say once you reach X amount of notifications the list gets overwhelmed and any new replies get jumbled up anywhere in the list. I first noticed it when the list got to over 800 in 30 days.

Hmm, well. The roaming issue is sorted AFAIK. But what I did notice was that when I used the first iD SIM my phone number was showing (in the about phone section) as 07xxxxxxxxx and all was well. Then me and the missus went on that European cruise (its on its own thread) and when we enabled roaming things didn’t work too well, but we overcame those hiccups. Though when in europe, rightly so, the about phone was showing my number as +447xxxxxxxxx whilst roaming. When we came back to the UK our phones (in manual connection mode) struggled to get back on to iD even though I was manually selecting iD as our network (again its all detailed). But since coming back to the UK our phones retained the +447 number. Your guidance says to change the number from 07 to 447 for those not showing their ported number as you know.

I thought nothing of the +447 until I obtained replacement SIMs around a week ago. Having used the app to register my new SIM I swapped my SIM immediately. Firstly to see the signal strength before my number was allocated to the SIM (I had no network and emergency calls only) and secondly to see what happens (as many others post about the wrong number, more so when they put the iD SIM in too soon) when my number is picked up on your systems. And it went back from 447 to 07, so full circle.

Signal wise, things are not going too well in that regard at all. I have dropped several hints here and there across several others threads and will be adding one final reply to the cruise thread (I was advised to tag my signal issues on the end of that). But in a nut shell, when I joined yourselves in February the signal was brilliant, then due to how good it was SWMBO joined too in March. From April things started to go slightly downhill but I didn’t bother getting this looked at as our area has has signal issues for years. Then sometime around September it deteriorated rapidly. Finally around 16 days ago the phones are all but useless. Dropped calls, failure to dial, BOTH phones locking up once (each about an hour apart), cracking, popping, almost to the point of nothing. I think I know what the main issue is - although Three have confirmed 3G has been switched off here and thus I’m in a 4G only area our phones are still dropping to 3G for calls but not all the time, just for the majority.

And I feel it’s only fair to let you know, being as you’re in charge on here, that as my boss (the wife) has absolutely reached her limit (its caused a few ding dongs), even though I keep persuading her to stay as it’s just a blip, sadly it isn’t getting any better and thus she’s leaving iD, and with that I’ll be going with her. Ignoring the roaming problem (which I sorted and was able to roam better than using the signal in the UK) and the app upgrades (personally I preferred to see usage daily) and that for the price I’m paying for the data is brilliant, the let down is not being able to have a reliable phone service. The latter is a must. I did try sorting this out with you guys (check the support PMs) but I couldn’t and you should see the reason why on there.

No worries Daz, hope you managed to sort out the issue they were having! Good news - as promised I feedback the “Mark all as read” suggestion and it’s been marked as “In development” by Gainsight.

  • Glad your Roaming issues have been resolved.
  • Replacement SIMs are blank until a number is allocated to them, which is why you saw “Emergency Calls Only”.
  • Interesting that it went back to 07 with a replacement SIM. I’ll be honest, I’m not sure it makes much of a difference, but the +44 guidance was from Three UK and Apple.
  • Sounds like the 3G Switch Off may be responsible for the shift in coverage. Have you checked Three UKs Coverage & Network Status in your area.. what do they say?

Sorry to hear you’re leaving iD, which network are you planning on switching to? Completely understand though if the signal has degraded, and it sounds like you’ve tried all the troubleshooting options. I believe 3G bandwidth will be reallocated to 4G/5G in the future, so the network should improve (+ the proposed merger with Vodafone, should get even better as infrastructures combine). Thanks.

Yep, AFAIK all’s well now. Plus more and more are becoming aware and thus the solution is filtering its way down the line. Personally speaking I think the big 4 could’ve managed the 3G kill off better, but who am I.

That’s good to hear, having to ability to mark all as read would be pretty useful. My long winded (and painfully slow) workaround was becoming a bit of a pain in honesty.

You might be missing the point, which is probably my fault. I knew the replacement SIM would show that (and that was my main goal). I wanted to see if a ‘blank’ SIM presented the same signal strength as one that had shook hands with the ‘mothership’. IF the blank was showing a stronger signal before registration I could have started to point a finger at iD. As it turned out the signal was as bad with a blank versus one registered. This to me then puts the onus on Three’s 3G switch-off to aid the 4G upgrade. There are of course other possibilities.

That’s what I thought too - started 07 → roams and changes to 447 → back home and keeps 447 → new SIM 07. However this tells me that roaming changes something on the system or SIM. Plus like myself, others have had a working phone, gone abroad, come back and then find signal issues. Is this or does this mean there’s bugs in the system? Had my phone signal returned to pre April I could’ve surmised there was a connection. As my signal is still as bad, then this 07 to 447 might just be a coincidence. Basically I was trying to ascertain what is causing the signal issues for those whom have roamed that some of us are currently having.

Oh boy have I been checking. Yep whenever I’m using the laptop I have both the status and coverage links open and there is a pattern, from Three anyway. Mine will go from a known issue, to we’re upgrading, to no issues, to there’s a known issue, upgrading, fixed, fault, upgrading, fix, fault and rinse and repeat - it’s been that way since September. IMHO Three are simply classing the ‘fault’ as clear to remove it from their system. Whether you guys have access to their historic faults is something I don’t know. But O2 used the same tactic, but at least I could register my mobile and it’ll send regular text updates until they ‘fixed their fault’ too, for theirs to return a week later.

You’re not wrong. My signal (as I keep harping on about) was great in the beginning, then it went a little wonky from April. Something changed in September and it since then its gone to poop. I’ve got a plethora of screenshots showing my phone connecting via LTE and for the most part when a call is received (or made) the phone starts off on LTE then drops to 3G - like Three are messing with their system/mast configuration and are trying to manipulate the system to issue LTE for data and 3G for calls. I can tell (as I hear it) when it drops to 3G, or I don’t even have to listen as the calls (lately) simply drop. The latter is quite a new ‘game’ and we’re on day 17 now. In my case the data side of things isn’t as important as the voice side. But if the voice side ain’t right I’m kinda up poop creek without an outboard motor.

And you might now see I don’t get the best of luck. Tried a MVNO using O2 = signal issues. Was considering going direct to 3 and what with all of this with iD they got crossed off the list, then although I hate BT with a passion I sniffed at EE (though a family member is already with EE and the signal is as bad here too!!) and the final throw of the dart was direct to Vodafone. But since the Three-Vodafone merger got the green light this is now up for debate. So currently it’s looking like a MVNO but not sure which one yet - Voxi, Smarty, Lebara, Talkmobile are towards the top. Don’t get me wrong Matt, although I read about a lot of issues on here (ain’t that the nature of forums) and the historic roaming wobbles iD in itself isn’t bad. But I wouldn’t be waffling on if the voice side of the service at least worked with 99.9% reliability. It truly is a massive shame (and you’re prices are great value too). And indeed I would hope the merger would improve what is to be then the biggest service provider and I really hope it doesn’t come at a great cost to iD (or all of the customers of all providers using the 3-Voda network).

As I said somewhere on these forums, if the signal/service worked as well as it did, like when I first came to iD, you’d have more than likely kept me lurking on these forums, so maybe its not a bad thing after all!!😂

Ohh, understand better now.

  • I’d agree with your conclusion this interim period of 3G switching off to the bandwidth being reallocated to 4G/5G has caused your signal degradation.
  • I have sent you a Private Message asking for some details to take a look at our internal coverage checker, if you’re happy to provide them I’ll be keen to investigate further.
  • Strange the phone is trying to drop to 3G, as it’s been switched off (would explain why the calls drop, as it’s going to a network technology we no longer use).

Thanks.

Phew, I wasn’t sure if all of that made sense.

The way I look at it, from September what else can it be. One may conclude that new customers get the full beans when they first join and then it gets knocked down a few gears. But this doesn’t tie in with newbies reporting signal issues from the get go. I wished now I’d paid attention from April through to September, but I didn’t so can’t really comment on this. But in September somebody tripped over an extension lead pulling a plug out in the process.

And don’t get me wrong, if I had to endure a few (2 max) months of less than ideal signal but the outcome was a full signal of 4G then I’d have been the 1st one to sign up. I’ve had signal issues here for years so am well versed in sub par signal. But it was great with iD in the beginning.

Yep, you got mail, late post though, my bad 🙄

Switched off you say and I would too. But look at what Three UK are currently showing for an address only 1 mile away

Ignore that fact it’s now the 19 December, the estimated off date was 18 September. But note what they’ve said about after they switch-off 3G “there may be reduced”, not “there won’t be any”. edit to add but duly noted they also say there could be no 3G

That explains why mine has gone but maybe it hasn’t…..

So I did try and contact a person via DM and it didn’t work - it gave an invalid error and repeat attempts just presents the three loading dots after hitting send.

But noticed a test topic and I think it’s related.

Anyway, that probable test account and test topic is highlighting a new issue I spotted but didn’t mention (since the removal of the notifications) whereby clicking on the users id all recent posts show they were posted an hour ago when they’re only minutes old

Also since this test topic started I keep getting booted off these forums (just tell me if you’ve had enough of me lol)

And refreshing the above gives this

CDbException

CDbConnection failed to open the DB connection.

Just thought I’d point this out

Okay. You’ve gotta be quicker than that to catch me out.

Emails for notifications are formatted in a much clearer text and nice to see it’s the topic, not your topic

But these were fun to get passed too.

Okay, more games. I like games.

Emails from staff show in the new email format - ie Tyler just mentioned you on the topic

But emails from my fellow users are in the old email format - Good news! <name redacted> has commented on your topic

It’s not my topic….🙄

@Daz_S -

Apologies, I’d been updating the Automated Emails today with new, more optimized code and graphics. You’ve seen the fruits of my labour and why checking which environment I’m in (Live vs Sandbox) is very important! 🙈 Gainsight had a brief outage today, hence why there were a few errors.

I’ll get back to your Private Message in the morning!

Hope you get overtime for this Matt 🤐

There may still be a little bug with the wording/setup on the email notifications. Some come through as commented on your topic and others come through as commented on the topic. Initially only staff generated emails had the new wording (the) and customer ones were (your), but one of yours came through at 16:08 as your topic too.

I can post up images and timestamps if this would help?

My latest PM to you never made it. The send button when pressed had the 3 loading dots and I left it for a good few minutes and it never stopped. Then the site went down so assume it was lost in the abyss. It was only mentioning the test topic and that those post times were correct on the post but the user id shows the posts were 1 hour ago (not minutes). This might be the notification blip or something else.

Bug report 9,999,999😜

I appear to be getting a lot of email notifications (not talking about the housekeeping ones) and in the text it states “just mentioned you” when its somebody else being mentioned.

example - Hi Daz_S, Tyler just mentioned you on the topic: Billing

He tagged the OP, not me:

Just pointing it out
