Question

Report poor signal area

I have really poor signal at work and regularly miss calls or have such poor reception the caller is unable to hear me if it does ring.  I'm trying to report the poor signal but going in circles on this website.  Having missed two really important calls from my child's school when she was taken ill, this is no longer a small inconvenience.  I'm now so frustrated I just want to leave ID Mobile.  There's reference to 'Contact Us' but seemingly no way of actually doing this.  Any advice please?

Probably best to resolve this issue by using the iD online Live Chat service, to speak to a customer adviser @Frustrated customer

The advisers work until 8pm on weekdays - just tell the 24/7 chatbot you’d like to “talk to a person”.

Hello @Frustrated customer

Thank you for getting in touch.

We are very sorry to hear of the issues you are experiencing and apologise for any concern or inconvenience.

Can you please confirm which handset you are using and if possible, can you please provide an example postcode of where you experience the issue?

Thanks,

Nat

Thanks Nat, I use a pixel 6a and the postcode is BA2 7HG.

Many thanks

The Three UK (the iD Mobile network partner) coverage is only shown as good outdoors at your location, @Frustrated customer

The OFCOM mobile coverage checker is worth checking as well.

https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/mobile-coverage

Just to say, OFCOM report limited indoor reception on all the UK networks at the postcode you’ve provided.

This community article explains several ways of contacting iD Mobile.

If you have the internet at work are you allowed to connect to the Wi-Fi and enable Wi-Fi calling on your phone?

If there is a Wi-Fi network you can tweak/improve the Wi-Fi calling - Flight mode the phone with Wi-Fi calling enabled, then just toggle the phones Wi-Fi back on - this eliminates signal drop out causing the Wi-Fi calling to fail mid conversation. But remember to toggle F/mode back off when leaving the Wi-Fi network.

Hi @Frustrated customer

Thank you for getting back to us.

I have taken a look and can see that both 3G and 5G are not really an option at that postcode and 4G is showing outdoors only.

Are you able to connect to WiFi in order to utilise WiFi calling when you are in the area?

Thanks,

Nat

Thanks for the comments.  I did have Wi-Fi calling enabled but that only seemed to work some of the time and I was still finding I'd missed calls when my phone hadn't even rung.  I'll try again, following Daz_S's advice.

An added problem is that I work in a school, and it's not really appropriate to be outside on-site on the mobile, and there's just no signal indoors.  There's estimated to be over 1000 people in that postcode area on any given day, so what is the likelihood of something being done to improve coverage please?

Hopefully it does overcome the signal issue 🤞 and for the most part many schools now have good Wi-Fi coverage.

Just one thing to point out, when the phone is in Flight/Airplane mode normal SMS texts won’t work, though texts that use data (ie RCS) will still work via the Wi-Fi.

With that amount of people, if you mean peak times (drop off and pick up) or the school has a large number of pupils then this would only add to your coverage woes.

I have no clue if 3UK will upgrade the mast(s) for your schools postcode or not, but my whole town suffers with poor mobile signal, mostly due to the lack of investment in the mobile masts - though them knocking off the 3G was IMHO done very badly, but here we are. iD Mobile might take this to private message via these forums, or you could chat to them via live chat - link on 2nd post. But them confirming 4G is only good outdoors might be as far as you get.

Out of interest @Frustrated customer did the Wi-Fi calling tweak help with the calls?
