That’s right you won’t be able to connect to another U.K. network with an iD SIM card in the handset.

From December 2021 networks were unable to sell locked handsets so if bought after this date it should be unlocked. Are you able to try a different network SIM to test this?

Ok Thankyou I just went to manually set network operator. All were forbidden apart from Three so could just be because I've currently got ID SIM in.👍

Hi @Peter Cooper
@MZone is correct in that newer phones are now ‘unlocked’ so that SIMs from other network providers can be used in it BUT…….. stating a phone is ‘unlocked’ does not mean that it truly works on all networks.
What many people don’t know is that the software on a handset, that manages new updates, is installed by the original provider it was sold by and unless you are connected to their network you will never get any new updates for the phone.
The software version needs to be ‘Unbranded’ so that all updates are received from the manufacturer of the handset rather than the network it was originally sold by.
As an example….. My sister gave me her old Samsung Galaxy J4+ (pre 3G turn off) and it would not update the software so that I could enable VoLTE, once the 3G signal was turned off, as the option wasn’t on the handset to do so. On doing research I found out that because she purchased the phone from Vodafone the software that they had installed would not allow the relevant updates, as I was not connected to their network, so that VoLTE could be enabled (as I was with iD Mobile - THREE). It was only when I installed Unbranded software that I got the relevant updates (direct from Samsung) that VoLTE worked.
Here is the software that was on the phone before I updated it with Unbranded software (VOD is the software code for Vodafone)...

And this is with unbranded software (XEU is the software code for Unbranded)……

Just be aware that when someone sees ‘Unlocked’ they may just think SIM but if they know how things work they may think that they are purchasing a handset where the software is not locked into a single network and will get all relevant updates.
x

Well it looks like my pics showing the relevant software information didn’t get approved in my initial post 🤔 so I’ll try again….
