Thursday, 5 March is World Book Day. It’s the perfect time to take a break, find a cosy spot, and dive into a story. Whether you prefer the feel of a physical book or the convenience of a library in your pocket, this is the day for you.

To celebrate, we asked the iD Mobile team what they’re reading right now, what they recommend, and how they like to enjoy their books.

Fantasy, Manga & The Supernatural.

A huge chunk of the team use reading to escape the real world, and honestly, we don't blame them.

Chloe B is currently reading All the Colours of the Dark by Chris Whitaker, but her top pick for the community is Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff. She says:

"If you’re into dark, atmospheric fantasy, this series is such a good pick. It’s got this moody, sunless world crawling with vampires, tons of rich gothic vibes, and a main character who’s messy, complicated, and incredibly compelling. The story jumps between timelines in a really fun interview-style format, and the mix of epic fantasy, horror, and grimdark drama keeps things intense in the best way. With deep lore and characters you’ll genuinely care about, it’s the kind of series that grabs you and doesn’t let go!"

Meanwhile, Samir P is catching up on Ultimate Spider-Man, but his absolute top recommendation is the long-running Manga, One Piece.

"It started back in 1997 and is currently ongoing to this date," Samir explains. "It's a story about a kid who dreams about becoming the King of the Pirates and his journey to build a crew to help him achieve his dreams. On the surface it's your basic bad guys vs good guys with lots of laughs here and there but under the surface it can be very dark, tragic and political at times."

Gripping Fiction & Life Stories.

Sometimes, you just need a story that hooks you from page one. Matthew D is currently reading A Thousand Splendid Suns, but he couldn't recommend The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid highly enough.

"I read it last year and realised it was one of those books that nearly everyone had read and put down as one of their favourites of all time," Matt told us. "It was an epic life story about a fictional Hollywood actress, specifically focusing on her love life (clue in the title) and career. The plot was gripping, juicy and addictive. I've not met anyone who's read it and didn't love it as much as I did. I'd give it a 10 out of 10."

Nathan E is also in the fiction camp. He’s currently reading The Thursday Murder Club: The Bullet that Missed and recommends the entire series because they are "very cleverly written, lots of twists and some great humour!"

Ana M is tackling the classics with Wuthering Heights. When asked for a recommendation, she couldn’t pick just one! If you need a reading list for the rest of 2026, Ana has you sorted:

  • Tuesdays with Morrie
  • A Little Life
  • Idiot
  • Circe
  • Babel
  • The Farseer Trilogy.

The Real World: History & Survival.

If you prefer non-fiction, you’re in good company. Both Kieran C and Enzo L recommended the exact same book: Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari.

Kieran describes it as "Sapiens - A Brief History of Humankind. A book that truly puts things into perspective!", while Enzo recommends it to "anyone interested in the history of humans."

Finally, for the adrenaline junkies, Gary M recommends the terrifying true story Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer.

"It's the true story of a 24-hour period on Everest, when members of three separate expeditions were caught in a storm and faced a battle against hurricane-force winds, exposure, and the effects of altitude, which ended in the worst single-season death toll in the peak's history," Gary explains. "It might sound bleak but it's gripping and gives fascinating insight into human behaviour when under pressure."

Turn your phone into a library.

Not everyone has the space for wall-to-wall bookshelves like something out of Beauty and the Beast. This is where your phone becomes your best travel companion.

Apps like Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play Books allow you to carry an entire library in your pocket without weighing down your bag. The best part? They sync across devices. You can start a chapter on your tablet while having your morning coffee, and finish it on your phone while waiting for the bus. You’ll never lose your page, and you’ll never be stuck without something to read.

If you’re like Diane King, who recommends the "tense and eerie" thriller Thin Air by Michelle Paver, you might prefer audiobooks through apps like Audible. They are perfect for multitasking, letting you devour a story while you’re cooking dinner, walking the dog, or doing the hoovering. With iD Mobile’s generous data allowances, streaming or downloading your next listen is effortless.
