You might have seen the news that Sky Mobile is increasing its monthly prices for millions of customers, with the rise planned for 14 February 2026.
So if you’re a Sky Mobile customer (or know someone who is), we're here to cut through the jargon, explain exactly what's happening, and show you what your options are.
By the end of this article, you'll understand your right to leave Sky penalty-free, and how you could switch to an iD Mobile plan that offers certainty and great features.
What's happening with Sky Mobile prices?
Sky Mobile has confirmed that most customers will see their monthly mobile plan increase by £1.50 per month (adding £18 a year to the cost) from 14 February 2026.
While some plans may see a smaller rise of £1, and a small percentage could rise by £3, the £1.50 increase applies to the majority of users. This is significant because it is the first time in over seven years that Sky has increased prices for customers who are still mid-contract.
Note: Sky Mobile’s social tariffs are not affected and remain frozen.
You have the right to leave.
Because Sky Mobile is changing the monthly price you agreed to, you have the right to cancel your contract without paying an early termination fee.
However, you must act quickly. You have a 30-day window to leave penalty-free, starting from the date Sky officially notifies you of the price change (notifications began on 6 January 2026). This window is based on when you receive the alert, not when the price actually rises.
Important to note: This right to cancel applies to your airtime plan (data, minutes, and texts). If you have a separate credit agreement for a handset (the phone itself), you will likely need to continue those device payments or pay off the remainder of the loan.
Our approach to pricing.
In January 2024, iD Mobile changed its approach to price rises for new and upgrading customers to ensure fairness and transparency:
- On Pay Monthly Phone Plans: We moved away from inflation-linked increases to a simple, fixed annual rise of £1.50 each April while you are in contract. There are no annual price rises once your contract period is over.
- On SIM only plans: These remain at a fixed price with no annual price rise. We believe SIM plans shouldn't carry the same associative costs as handset plans.
Switching is easier than you think.
Leaving Sky Mobile is straightforward. You can use the Text-to-Switch process. Simply text ‘PAC’ to 65075 (free) from your Sky SIM. You’ll then receive a code to give to your new provider, allowing you to switch while keeping your existing phone number.
This is the perfect moment to check out iD Mobile. Our fixed price SIM Only plans guarantee that the price you sign up for remains fixed for the entire length of your contract. No nasty surprises, complete peace of mind.
